Our Lady of Fatima Apparitions Celebrations begin 13th May
Celebrations for the 100th anniversary of apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima begin on Saturday 13th May 2017. Mary appeared to three shepherd children on May 13, 1917 and the apparitions continued once a month until October 13, 1917. Like the apparitions the various celebrations will take place over a 5 month period. Pope Francis will lead the evening recitation of rosary and celebrate Mass on the anniversary, May 13th, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima when he visits Portugal next week.
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Each year the Holy See and the World Council of Churches work together to prepare materials for this Week of Prayer which takes place between the feasts of the Ascension and Pentecost (28 May – 4 June in 2017). The Catholic Bishops Committee for Ecumenism has adjusted the Holy See’s prayer materials for use in New Zealand. These are available on the website www.wn.catholic.org.nz. These resources include prayers for each day of the week, a suggested order for an ecumenical service and a booklet explaining the Week of Prayer.
